We're planning on a meet in Manchester on Saturday 21st October, for the Code Golfers who can make it. There's been a bit of interest in the IRC channel, so hopefully there will be a good turn out.
If you're interested, post something in here and we can fix the details. We can recommend hotels if required, and we can organise where we'll actually meet up closer to the time depending on numbers and when people can show up!
11/11 is getting near enough for me to want to plan this.
i think that my last saturday return train to stoke departs 20:54 and i do not want to stay in manchester overnight when i am only 40 mins away. so i would prefer an earlyish start.
i think that others will want to have time to arrive and may also only want to stay overnight if they are so far away that they cannot return in a day.
cambridge appears to have the option of 04:24 -> 09:46 in the morning, yet no reasonable return journeys that arrive in the same day.
my suggestions are:
1) start early
2) start in a fixed place with a four hour period
3) announce some information soon
so, like, meet at the cucumber and hearing aid on 11/11 between 10:11 and 14:11
i welcome futher comments, but i can not see it being practical for people outside manchester unless we start early...
AgentIcarus is arriving at Manchester Piccadilly at about 12:45pm, so I'm planning on being in the B Lounge from about 12:30. If people want to turn up a little earlier, let me know, I'm sure it can be arranged.
The full address of the pub is :
The B Lounge, 97 Piccadilly Station Approach, M1 2DB.
It's about 5 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly. If you head from the station towards Piccadilly Gardens, it's on your right. The last time I was there, it still had "The Brunswick" written on the outside and no clue to its new name. Either way, if you visit their web site, it's the white building on the left of the page that you're looking for. If people want my mobile number in case they get lost, email me using the contact link in the footer.
We'll stay in The B Lounge for however long it takes for everyone to turn up but if there are any people who might just decide to turn up on the day, we'll stick around until 5pm. We'll make plans for the rest of the evening during the afternoon. AgentIcarus is staying up in Manchester for the night, so if we can make it, we'll be out until the small hours.
